Château Pontet-Canet is a 5th Growth Grand Cru Classé from 1855, boasting an 81-hectare single plot in Pauillac, adjacent to Mouton Rothschild. Under the Tesseron family, it was among the first major Bordeaux châteaux to complete its conversion to biodynamic farming. To avoid soil compaction, they plough their vineyards with horses instead of tractors and nurture the vines using homemade plant preparations. The vineyard features typical Médoc terroir, with gravel mixed with clay and limestone.

The 2019 vintage experienced a mild winter, even flowering, and stable summer conditions, followed by a clear harvest from September 23rd to October 10th. The blend consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Aging, a signature method of this château, involves a combination of new oak barrels, one-year-old barrels, and clay amphorae, introduced in 2012. These porous amphorae allow subtle oxygen exchange without imparting new oak flavors, which has enhanced the fruit definition in recent vintages.

In the glass, it presents a deep garnet hue with purple reflections. The nose initially reveals cassis, plum, and ripe cherry, followed by layers of peony, iris, cedar pencil, tobacco leaf, graphite, Ceylon tea, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, it is distinctly full-bodied, yet the tannins are exceptionally fine-grained, spreading broadly across the palate, while vibrant acidity elegantly lifts the weight. The finish is remarkably long, with minerals and subtle smoke lingering to the very end. The wine will be ready for optimal drinking from 2028 onwards and is capable of aging for over 30 years.

However, if there are clear issues such as damage during delivery, delivery of a product different from what was ordered, or significant leakage, please contact us within 3 days of receipt.
