Tasting Notes

Deep ruby color. Layers of cherry, blackberry, violet, and rose aromas mingle with nuances of wet granite, black pepper, and fallen leaves. On the palate, silky tannins and a thread-like acidity provide structure, while the distinct dark schist minerality characteristic of Côte Rôtie leaves a long finish.

Jean Foillard took over his father's domain in 1980 and, with Agnès, cultivates approximately 14 hectares in Villié-Morgon. Following the teachings of Jules Chauvet, he formed the "Gang of Four" with Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet, and Guy Breton. He is credited with restoring the prestige of Beaujolais Crus through cultivation without herbicides and pesticides and fermentation with natural yeasts.

'Côte du Py' is a granite and schist hill overlooking the village of Villié-Morgon, known as the heart of Morgon. Old-vine Gamay grapes are hand-harvested and whole clusters undergo cold carbonic maceration at 4-7°C. After 3-4 weeks of fermentation with natural yeasts, the wine is aged for 6-9 months in Burgundy oak barrels that have been used for at least two years. There is no fining or filtration, and no sulfur dioxide is added during winemaking.

In the glass, a transparent crimson hue. The nose first reveals cherry, Morello cherry, and blackcurrant, followed by layers of violet, rose, forest floor, black pepper, and licorice spices. On the palate, dense and fine tannins provide structure, vibrant acidity lifts the mid-palate, and salty minerality from the granite supports the finish. The aftertaste lingers with cherry and crushed pepper.

However, if there are clear issues such as damage during delivery, delivery of a product different from what was ordered, or significant leakage, please contact us within 3 days of receipt.
